Evolution Korea
In the past the Korean scientific community avoided engaging with the creationists out of fear of giving the movement more credence. The silence is no longer an alternative.
The STR has been fighting to eliminate content from textbooks that describe evolution, such as the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestral bird's ancestor. This is only one aspect of the evolution of the development paradigm.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a theory of science that explains the changes in genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adapt to their environment, which could result in variations in genes or even whole genomes. Over the course of many generations the changes could result in the creation of new species. The predominant theory of evolution is natural selection, which describes the process that allows individuals with advantageous characteristics survive and reproduce more often than those with disadvantages. This differing reproduction may eventually lead to the emergence and evolution of new species.
The word "evolution" originates from Latin for unrolling or revealing has been used in many different ways as the concept has developed in both science as well as elsewhere. Early evolutionists such as Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predetermined to change into another species. The term transmutation was coined by Lamarck's student, embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint Hilaire, to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 opposed this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the notion that existing species change into other species in an orderly and predictable manner.
Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process by which living things develop characteristics to improve their chances of living or conceiving offspring. As time passes, genetic variation can cause a population to acquire new physical characteristics or biological functions. Natural selection is the process that drives the most evolutionary changes. Changes that are not genetic, like an increase in muscle mass from exercise or diet, can't be considered to be evolutionary because they don't pass on to future generations.

Despite the fact that evolution has stood the test of time and a multitude of scientific experiments however, creationists have taken advantage of the idea that the theory is controversial to argue that it shouldn't be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories over evolution in textbooks for high schools. This includes the removal of references about the evolutionary origins for humans and Archaeopteryx - a feathered dinosaur that is believed to be the ancestral bird's first ancestor.
Why is Evolution Important?
Evolution explains the origins and evolution of Earth and all living species. It is also one of the pillars of biology and helps scientists discover how living things operate and develop. Evolution also shows how different species are connected. Scientists study evolution to better understand the natural world, and also to make important discoveries, such as developing new drugs.
The evidence for biological evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that explains as much about the universe as the life on this planet. It has been thoroughly studied and verified for many years. Many people, including religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory. It is essential to remember that evolutionary biology does not contradict religious beliefs because it only focuses on physical objects, events and processes.
In reality, many religious people have come up with ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolutionary theory. For example certain Christians believe that God created the world through evolution, and that humans share an ancestral lineage with other animals.
It is essential that science educators advocate for the teaching evolution. In some countries, the anti-evolution movement has been growing. In the United States, efforts to restrict the teaching of evolution have made some progress in a few states. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC), is campaigning for textbooks to include content on the evolution of horses and their avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.
It is important to remember that the evidence in support of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution is based on a variety of sources, including fossils, genetics, and the behavior of living creatures. Other scientists independently verify the evidence.
The majority of scientists believe in the theory of evolution. This support is based on many different reasons. Certain scientists study evolution in order to discover practical solutions, such as developing medicines, while others are motivated by a desire to improve animal and plant species, typically to benefit humans. Some scientists are simply curious, while others hold a a strong religious belief in God.
What is Creationism?
Creationists are people who believe that God created the universe and all that is in it. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be taken literally. Many creationists are Christians However, not all. Creationists are typically divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.
The YECs are the best known form of creationist, and they believe that God created the universe exactly as described in the Bible. YECs believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation is literal, and that the universe and life on Earth was created only recently.
OECs might not be as popular however their beliefs are just as passionate like the YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old, and that evolution is an untruth.
Both types of creationism reject the idea that scientific principles like biogenesis and natural selection could explain how life began on Earth. They argue that evolution is impossible, because it requires miracles. The pioneers of modern scientific thought resisted miracles in fear that they might lose their credibility.
Some creationists are able to accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation, and refer to their position "theistic evolution." It is sometimes known as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the created species." The theory says that God creates the original species and allows them to change over time. In the end, these evolutionary changes will result in new species identical to the original species.
Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the entire universe in one event called the Great Flood. These creationists hold that all species were created at the same moment and then gradually evolved. They also reject the concept of abiogenesis, and argue that the creation of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is not possible.
In general, creationists oppose teaching evolution in schools. Numerous professional organizations like the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education endorse this view as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Certain scientists and educational institutions are, however, more flexible and allow creationism and evolution to be included in their curriculum.
What is 에볼루션코리아 ?
When people think about the concept of creationism, a lot think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolution group. Publishers of high school textbooks have recently announced that they will eliminate references to evolution from their textbooks. A group dubbed the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), an independent body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research which is the driving force behind the campaign. The STR has won its first victory by removing from textbooks the evidence of the evolution and ancestor of the bird, the Archeopteryx. Its sights are now set on removing excerpts from Darwin's infamous finch research and on human evolution, too.
STR claims to have the backing of 4,000 families and members. Its goal is to weed out what it sees as the "atheist materialism" that reflects a hopeless worldview for students. It also hopes to combat the influence of American creationists in the country. A survey of trainee biology teachers found that about half do not believe in the concept of evolution. The reasons for this are not clear but could be due to religious beliefs or the absence of full-time creation scientists across the country.
The KACR achieved many things through its lectures and seminars in the past. 에볼루션 블랙잭 publishes a bimonthly journal called Creation and an ebook. One of them is a textbook on the natural sciences, with a creationist viewpoint, which sparked interest in college communities. In 1991 an academic and minister began teaching Creation Science in one university and it continues to be taught to this day.
On August 7 and 8 the 7th of August 1993, which coincided with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from the world, including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of several thousand. KACR and its members have given lectures on creation science in major seminaries, too. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
